Twenty-seventh US President Taft was elected in 1908 and defeated by Woodrow Wilson in 1912. He taught at Yale Law from 1913 - 1921 and was named Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in 1921, a position he enjoyed far more than being president. He served until one month before his death and although known more for his reform of court operations, he participated in several major decisions. A rare signature in black ink on a clipped white page inscribed by Taft 'Very Sincerely Yours, William H Taft'.
