A fascinating and rare brass 100 Pfennig token, originally issued in 1907-14 as a cantine token for use on the cruiser SMS Konigsberg, Schimmel#1199, Ford#295. The Konigsberg was stationned in German East Africa in the leadup to WWI, becoming a shipping raider around Zanzibar until being damaged in a surprise attack by a pair of British monitors in 1915 while taking on coal in the Rufiji estuary. She became a stationery floating gun emplacement for a time, before being scuttled by her crew on July 11, and it was during this time that these tokens began to be used in general circulation in and around Salale, eventually being supplimented by cast tokens of the same design. All tokens of this type are rare, and this example is as good as can be hoped for, being problem-free and having superb eye-appeal.
