2019 Centenary of Remembrance Sovereign Cover

11 November 2019 marked the centenary of the very first National Remembrance Ceremony held in Whitehall, attended by HM King George V at the Cenotaph - which was then just a temporary structure. What we see today was not completed and dedicated until 1920.

The Remembrance Centenary Commemorative Gold Sovereign cover encapsulates the 2019 gold sovereign [depicting George and The Dragon] within a striking poppy motif frame alongside a touching image of two soldiers at a comrade's grave. The cachet reproduces the bittersweet words of Wilfred Owen - who died just one week before the Armistice - 'Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori' - 'It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country'. The cover is completed by two Poppy commemoratives with a National Arboretum, Alrewas pictorial poppy handstamp.
